Why trees only
A dead pitch pine over a roof is not a landscaping problem
It is a rigging problem. It needs a certified arborist, the right gear, the right insurance, and a plan for getting the wood down in pieces small enough to control — over a slate roof, between two power drops, with a septic field you are not allowed to drive across.
Almost every established outfit on the Vineyard has drifted into general landscaping over the years. Mowing pays weekly; tree work does not. We went the other way. Windward does trees, and that is the whole company: the same crew, the same equipment, and a truck set up for one job instead of five.
That focus is why we can say no. If an oak needs cabling and a re-inspection in two years rather than removal, that is what goes in the estimate — even though it is the smaller invoice.

How it works
From photograph to raked lawn

You send photographs
The base of the trunk, the whole tree, and what it is leaning over. Three pictures and an address are usually enough to tell us whether this is urgent.

We look at it properly
Most jobs get a site visit within a few days. We check the root plate, the soil, the lean, the targets and the access — and we say if the tree can stay.

A written estimate
Scope, method, crew size, equipment, what happens to the wood and the chip, and what it costs. Signed by the arborist who looked at the tree.

The work, and the cleanup
We protect the lawn and the beds, rig the wood down in controlled pieces, and leave the site raked. Stump work and chip removal are priced up front, not added after.

William signs every estimate, and climbs most of them
The national chains that advertise on the island send whoever is on the boat that week. You get a quote from a salesperson and a crew you have never met. That is fine for a hedge. It is not fine for a 70-foot black oak with a compromised root plate above a guest house.
Here you get the certified arborist who assessed the tree standing under it while it comes down. Same person on the phone, on the estimate and on the rope.
