Why Windward

It is a rigging problem. It needs the right gear, the right insurance, and a plan for getting the wood down in pieces small enough to control: over a slate roof, between two power drops, with a septic field you are not allowed to drive across.
Tree work on the Vineyard is its own trade. It takes climbers who rig for a living, a truck set up for the job, and somebody qualified to judge what a tree will do before anyone puts a saw into it. That is what Windward is built around: the same crew and the same equipment, on this island, all year.
That is also why we can say no. If an oak needs cabling and a re-inspection in two years rather than removal, that is what goes in the estimate, even though it is the smaller invoice. But it only works because somebody stood under the tree first.

How it works
From your call to a raked lawn

You call us
Tell us what the tree is doing and where it is. If it is over a house, across a road or into a power line, say so; that moves you up the list the same day.

We come and look at it
The arborist walks the site, usually within a few days: the root plate, the soil, the lean, the targets and the access. You get their read on the tree while they are standing under it, including whether it can stay.

A written estimate
Scope, method, crew size, equipment, what happens to the wood and the chip, and what it costs. Signed by the arborist who looked at the tree.

The work, and the cleanup
We protect the lawn and the beds, rig the wood down in controlled pieces, and leave the site raked. Stump work and chip removal are priced up front, not added after.
Who turns up
William sets the standard, and climbs most of the hard ones
The national chains that advertise on the island send whoever is on the boat that week. You get a quote from a salesperson and a crew you have never met: nobody who saw the tree, and nobody you can hold to what was said. That is not how you price a 70-foot black oak with a compromised root plate above a guest house.
Here a certified arborist assesses the tree, writes the estimate, and is on site while it comes down. Whoever walks your property is the person answerable for what was said about it.
